Frequently asked
Ordering and delivery
How does your delivery service work across Mumbai?
Delivery goes out via Porter, charged at actual rates from Kandivali East. For Bandra and beyond, we bring the cost down by batching orders heading in the same direction.
What are your delivery areas and charges?
We currently deliver across Mumbai. Delivery is free on orders over ₹1000, otherwise a fee of up to ₹120 applies. We batch deliveries and charge on actuals only, so you pay the lower amount. Sometimes the real delivery cost is higher, but we batch orders heading in one direction and spread the charge evenly across customers. We plan to launch a free delivery plan for subscribed customers shortly.
How can I get free delivery on my order?
If you order above ₹1000, your order is delivered free.
How do I place an order at Bombay Sourdough Company?
Place your order on the website. All orders are cash on delivery, and we send you a scanner after your order arrives. Sourdough bread needs to be ordered one day before delivery. We deliver every product on the same day it is baked, to keep it fresh.
Can I pre-order for a specific date?
Yes, pre-orders are welcome. Ordering in advance helps us plan the baking schedule and makes sure your bread is baked fresh and delivered the same day. We recommend pre-ordering for weekends and special occasions in particular.
Do you accept bulk or party orders?
Yes. Whether it is a celebration, a gathering or a corporate requirement, we are happy to help. Since we bake in small batches, we ask for bulk orders in advance so we can hold quality and freshness.
Do you deliver to Bandra, Andheri or South Mumbai?
Yes, we deliver across Mumbai including Bandra, Andheri and South Mumbai. To keep delivery charges reasonable we often batch orders going in the same direction, especially for areas further from our kitchen.
Do you deliver on weekends?
Yes. Weekends are usually busier, so we recommend placing your order or pre-ordering in advance to be sure of availability and timely delivery.
How do I store my bread?
For the first 3 days, keep it in the paper bag at room temperature. To keep it longer, slice and freeze it. You can toast slices straight from the freezer.
About sourdough
What is sourdough?
Sourdough is the oldest form of leavened bread. It uses a wild yeast starter instead of commercial yeast, and a long fermentation that makes the bread more flavourful, more nutritious and easier to digest. It has a low glycemic index and contains lactobacillus, a probiotic that helps digestion.
Is your bread really organic?
No, it is not organic. It is freshly baked and preservative free. We use only flour, water, starter and salt. Our promise is that it is delivered the same day it is baked.
What is your USP?
From our oven to your home. Whatever we bake is delivered on the same day it is baked. Freshly baked is the whole point.
Is sourdough bread healthier than regular bread?
Generally yes. It is made using natural fermentation, which helps break down gluten and makes nutrients easier for the body to absorb. It also has a lower glycemic index than regular bread.
Is your sourdough suitable for diabetics?
Sourdough has a lower glycemic index than regular bread, which means it may cause a slower rise in blood sugar. Many diabetics prefer sourdough, but we always recommend checking with your doctor or nutritionist based on your own health needs.
Is sourdough easier to digest?
Yes. The long fermentation lets natural bacteria and wild yeast break down complex carbohydrates and gluten, which makes sourdough easier to digest for many people than regular bread.
Does your bread contain added sugar?
No. We add no sugar to our sourdough bread. It is made with flour, water, natural starter and salt, and the flavour develops through fermentation.
Choosing your bread
What is the difference between the country loaf and the multigrain loaf?
Our classic country loaf is a sourdough made with refined flour, with a crisp crust and a light, airy crumb and a mild tang. The multigrain sourdough is heartier and denser, made with whole grains and seeds, higher in fibre and more complex and nutty.
Which bread is best for sandwiches?
The country loaf works best, thanks to its open crumb and sturdy crust that holds fillings without going soggy. For something more filling, the multigrain loaf is also a good choice.
Which sourdough is best for daily eating?
For every day, the multigrain sourdough is ideal because the whole grains and seeds give you more fibre and steadier energy. If you prefer a lighter texture, the country loaf is perfect for daily toast and meals.
